Description
11″ x 14″ oil on panel, unframed
Here is the second of a series of paintings featuring Irish Draught Stallion, Epona’s Amhrán Mo Chroí. He is a 2012 Class 1 Irish Draught stallion by Moorpark Image out of Knockaderry Pearl (by Mountain Pearl) and stands in Ontario, Canada. I was fortunate to visit with him on a bright sunny morning as he investigated a paddock that was new to him. Many smells for a young stallion to take in.
The first painting of him I posted last week titled, “Presence” leaned cool in palette. To contrast that painting, I switched it up here to lean warm. I toned the panel Indian Yellow and played from there, accentuating movement with brushwork, R+F oil bar pigment sticks and scraper tools. The painting has a good amount of texture and interest with transparent and opaque layers. The exploring I am doing in cold wax abstracts in the studio is very much complimenting my oil paintings as I investigate using tools beyond the paintbrush.
This painting is framed and available for purchase through Equis Art Gallery, Red Hook, New York.
