“Silhouette of Solitude” 9″ x 12″ oil and cold wax on 1″ deep cradled panel. Unframed. Buffed to a satin sheen. Edges are painted a deep turquoise, matching color within the painting.
Silhouette of Solitude came to me in a different way than my other cold wax pieces. I began without the equine image in mind and started layering in wax on panel, instead of paper. The patterning and textures eventually gave way to an equine form which I then layered loosely with crayon and oil pen.
Lately as this pandemic continues to unfold, I have been drawn to working in cold wax. Perhaps it is due to its calming, meditative and sculptural qualities. Yet, much like in life these days, there are no predicted outcomes. Happy surprises exploring this media are often a highlight in the many days of continued solitude in the studio.
