Description
Contemplate, 16″ x 20″ Mixed Media on 1 1/2″ cradled panel.
Some paintings fall off the brush, others need time to come to fruition. I began this painting in early 2020. I knew I had something, but the answer to completing this artwork was unclear. After roughing in, I shelved it and gained 2 more years of working in cold wax medium in the meantime. I revisited this work again a couple of weeks ago. This time with I had more confidence and a better understanding of how I could successfully combine two elements – the glistening coat of the horse before me created in Oil, in contrast with a dynamic slightly abstracted background in cold wax medium.
This painting is a play on contrast. Contrast with detail, and looseness. The contrast in the stillness of my model (thank you Chelsea) and the texture and subtle transparency cold wax allows me to play with.
